A new chapter for Barrett-Bell
Inclusive learning. Stronger careers. Healthier communities.
Movement can change lives. The right education can help people turn that power into a meaningful career.
We are proud to introduce the health and fitness side of Barrett-Bell: a new area of specialist training created for people who want to build credible skills, support others and contribute to a healthier, more active nation.
For years, Barrett-Bell has helped adults gain the knowledge, practical ability and confidence needed to progress. We are bringing that same supportive and quality-led approach to health and fitness education, opening new routes into personal training and specialist exercise support.
The government's Get Active strategy sets out an ambition to build a healthier nation by tackling inactivity and helping the sport and physical activity sector become more accessible, inclusive and sustainable. It calls on organisations across the country to help create more opportunities for people to take part.

We believe skilled fitness professionals are central to that ambition. People are more likely to feel confident becoming active when they receive safe, knowledgeable and encouraging support – particularly if they are new to exercise, returning after a break or living with a long-term health condition.
Good fitness practice starts with understanding the individual.
Our programmes are designed to prepare learners not simply to gain a qualification, but to become thoughtful, capable professionals who can make a positive difference.
This qualification supports learners to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to plan and deliver safe, effective and individualised exercise programmes. It is an ideal route for anyone looking to begin or develop a career as a personal trainer.
This specialist programme develops the confidence and understanding needed to work more inclusively with clients whose health conditions may affect exercise participation. It helps fitness professionals move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach and provide appropriate, person-centred support within their professional scope of practice.
We understand that many adult learners are balancing study with employment, family life and other responsibilities. Our approach combines flexible learning with structured tutor guidance, clear milestones and practical support. Learners are encouraged to ask questions, develop confidence and apply their learning to realistic situations.
Our health and fitness platform will also be a place for useful, reliable and encouraging content. Alongside information about our qualifications, we will share:
Our aim is to create a positive community where education and everyday wellbeing come together – whether you are considering a new career, developing your existing skills or simply looking for inspiration to lead a more active life.
Eligible learners may be able to use an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the tuition costs of an approved course in England. Eligibility is not based on household income and there is no credit check. Funding rules and personal circumstances apply, so we will explain the available route clearly before enrolment and encourage each applicant to consider the commitment carefully.
